Yesterday a reporter from my local newspaper, The St. Petersburg Times, came out to interview for a story that would run in the paper today. The article was about returning war veterans that could not find work. I sat down and spoke with this man for little over an hour about the hard times that I had gone through for the last eight months since my job hunt began. With eight months of now luck this man decided that I would make the perfect face for this largely unseen and unknown tragedy.
Did you know that nearly 15% of all returning war vets between the ages of 20-24 are currently unemployed. And that one third of Americas homeless are, in fact, war veterans themselves.
Needless to say this was quite distressing.
So the story ran on the FRONT PAGE of the newspaper today and something amazing happened. The turn out I received of people wanting to offer me jobs was incredible. I received over twenty calls today asking if I was interested in working for them.
However, the most incredible came in the form of a man named Micheal E. Russel. Before today, I had never met the man before in my life. And this afternoon this man shows up on my door step with a check for $1000. He hands it to me, shakes my hand, thanks me for my service and leaves. Just like that this man handed over $1000 because he thought that I deserved it.
I have never been so moved in my life. The sheer magnitude of support I received from the people of my community was breath taking. I would like to take this time to extend my thanks to all those out there who offered me everything from support, to jobs, to money. I don't know if you all realize how much this has meant to me, but I will say that I will never forget what these people have done for me and my family on this day.

You'll never be alone,
When darkness comes I'll light the night with stars,
Hear my whispers in the dark.
